Throughout his life Terry experienced attraction to other men, but never felt it was possible to acknowledge this, or act on his desires. He married young, and raised a family with his wife. But by his 60s his marriage was over, and he felt he could no longer hide or deny this part of himself.

Although it was a relief to be able to be honest about being gay, Terry also found it hard to know where to start when it came to gay sex. He described feeling like an inexperienced gay virgin – an awkward teenager when everyone else seemed to know what they were doing.

Hookups felt too intimidating for him, but he wanted to learn how to be sexually intimate with another man, and figure out what he did and didn’t like.
